HIDDEN GEM: THOUSAND ACRE SWAMP

I keep saying that I never cease to be amazed by the hidden outdoor gems tucked away here in the Rochester region of Upstate, NY, but… really and truly, I never cease to be amazed! Enter the THOUSAND ACRE SWAMP, a Nature Conservancy wildlife habitat tucked away unassumingly in Penfield, NY. Wouldn’t know it was there unless you knew it was there.

Beautiful wooded and marsh areas; lots of wildlife; endless boardwalks both wide and narrow. Very kid friendly (except for some poison ivy along the narrower trails, but that’s true of any trail area this time of the year). The trail system is close to 2 miles in length. Long enough to have fun, but not so long that you’ll get hopelessly lost. Check out the photos, and than head North on Jackson Road; Thousand Acre Swamp will be hidden away on your left before you hit Webster.

Enjoy!
